ClaimID – Linked Resume

Spent some time digging around ClaimID. Their punch line is “Managing your online identity” which a tall order nonetheless the basic idea behind ClaimID is that you find links on the internet that are about you, and add them to your ClaimID. Essentially you do a google search, handpick the links and add it to your ClaimID page…the links can be about you, your interests or whatever else you want other people to know about you …”aggregate information so that people can get to know you in the way you want to be known” … much on the lines of following :-)

There are a few others…Ziki, Naymz, Emurse, Simplifid which does more or less the same thing…. Del.icio.us in formals :-) …giving you the means to consolidate your online presence/interests at one (more) place. And of course LinkedIn.

As much as I like their interface, I’m not sure if I need yet another page to manage my online links. Their main use case is ‘Linked Resume’ and it’ll probably get the same attention as my Resume…update it just before I start looking. Additionally, what others say about me has more credibility than what I say about me…so Google search still has a place…or so I think.

The part which I found more interesting was their support for OpenID and MicroID. I don’t understand OpenID enough to state if it has the potential to become the defacto standard ( it looks overly simplistic ) for the low-end services…but at least the cross-site authentication is getting traction. PeopleAggregator too announced their support couple of weeks ago. One of the entry barriers that I have for trying out new sites, is their requirement of setting up an account first…the account that I cease to remember by next morning. I’m reluctant to visit those sites again…since I don’t want to create a new account and I don’t want to be stressed digging around for the one I already have. And yes, it makes me realize that I’m not organized…so I avoid them altogether :-)

ClaimID seems like a pretty neat concept.

A friend of mine actually has been talking about coding something similar, I’ll have to point him in this direction though — looks like they’ve got a great approach.

It’s a tad bit different focus from emurse. We’re trying to focus on the job hunt exclusively, where ClaimID seems to be more about keeping track of the things that are and aren’t you on the web. It’s a place to point folks to who might be researching you. Seems like the perfect thing to list on your emurse.com resume if you were so inclined ;)

    Neat stuff.

I like the idea behind Shibboleth ID. I currently have a Shib ID from ProtectNetwork and i am able to use it on Campus with so many different apps as well as apps/sites from across different Campuses.

One very big setback with emurse.com is that it doesn’t have spell checker. Make sure you don’t have any typing/spelling misstakes on your resume or otherwise your resume will finish in garbage bin of HR manager.
